DWI Client, Hanai, just began her new journey in the Work Services Program at DWI. Since 2019, Hanai has participated in both the LIFE program and Community Based Employment Services at DWI. She said that she is excited to be working with her friends on the production floor and likes that she is able to work on different projects throughout the day and week. She appreciates that her job coaches are there to help her learn the steps and assist her in reaching her level of economic and social independence.
The Work Services Program is important to those individuals who have attempted Community Based Employment as an alternative choice. Thanks to the support of many of our state legislators, including Sen. Kevin Cook, who authored the Bill, Senate Bill S1399 provided a path for more individuals to choose Extended Employment Services (which includes Work Services) as an option towards their level of independence. Governor Little signed the bill in Spring of 2022.
Our hope is that by providing this choice, clients can learn additional skills that will better prepare them for Community Based Employment. In order to provide more opportunities for more individuals, we continually seek businesses to partner with us on our Business Solutions. Through our Injection Molding, Commercial Sewing and Assembly & Packaging (Kitting) Divisions, long term and short-term contracts with businesses provide valuable vocational training and economic independence for our clients. If you have any questions on how you can become a partner with DWI, please contact us for a tour or check our webpage
